Supermalar: Premier MS-DOS English-Malayalam Word Processor Software

Supermalar was a Malayalam word processor software developed by Supersoft and released in 1991. It was one of the first Malayalam word processors available and was used by many Malayalam speakers to create documents in their own language.
Supermalar was designed to run on MS-DOS operating systems and required a computer with a 4MHz processor and 8086 CPU. This made it possible for Malayalam speakers to use a Malayalam word processor even on relatively low-end computers.
Supermalar was a simple and easy-to-use software. It also supported a variety of features for word processing, such as text editing, formatting, and printing.
Supermalar was discontinued in 2002, but it is still used by some Malayalam speakers as a Malayalam character input tool. This is because Supermalar is a very fast and efficient software. It can be used to type Malayalam text quickly and easily.
In 2002, Supersoft renamed Supermalar to "Thoolika under DOS". This was done to make it clear that Supermalar was a discontinued software and that Thoolika was the current Malayalam word processor software from Supersoft.

Around 1994 we renamed Supermalar the bilingual (Malayalam/ English) word processor to Thoolika under DOS editor. Many of the publishing houses used this as a useful handy tool to edit Malayalam, and then they exported it to PageMaker for page layout. Solution: Run Windows Explorer, right-click on the CHM file, and select Properties from the popup menu. Click on the Unblock button immediately below the Advanced button on the General page. Click Apply to show the content. Once the CHM file has been unblocked, the Unblock button disappears.

This MS DOS based Malayalam English word processor can be downloaded from here (SuperMalar.zip) . The files TECGA.EXE, TEHGA.EXE and TEVGA.EXE are the main executable files. TECGA is for Colour Graphics Adapter based displays and TEHGA is for Hercules Graphics Adapter based display Cards and TEVGA is for Video Graphics Adapter based display cards. CGA and HGA display card based computers are not available in the market at present. Now a day computers are VGA based display based. Hence you use the TEVGA.EXE executable.

Present computers would not directly support this MS DOS based application. Download DOSBOX emulator an add-on that which supports old MS DOS based applications. It can be downloaded from here (DOSBOX)
